A creamy garlic cream sauce and tender pork with gnocchi

A great easy but decadent creamy garlic pork steaks and gnocchi make a perfect midweek meal.

Tasty pork steaks are cheap, cheerful and easy to cook with.

Packed full of rich buttery fat that melts into the most sublime flavour.

How to cook pork steaks

There are two main ways to cook pork steak: pan-frying and grilling.

How to pan-fry perfect pork steaks

  1. Heat a heavy-based or non-stick frying pan to a medium heat
  2. Oil the steak on both sides, rub in and season with salt and pepper
  3. Add the pork steak to the hot pan. Keep a close eye on it – it depends how thick the steaks are to cook but anywhere between 3 – 4 mins or 6 -7 minutes on each side
  4. Cook until the fat has caramelised, then leave the steaks to rest

Gnocchi

Gnochhi, N’YAW-kee or just say it with a quick mumble.

Gnocchi originates in Northern Italy.

They grow lots of spuds up there!

Basically, gnocchi are a form of dumpling.

Made of light, fluffy mashed potato, egg and flour.

But in this recipe I used shop bought gnocchi.

And it was perfectly good.

Just remember, gnocchi doesn’t take long to cook.

As soon as it floats, it’s cooked.

Creamy garlic pork steaks and gnocchi

Ingredients

  • 2 (high-welfare) pork steaks
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 6 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1/2 cup chicken stock
  • 1/2 lemon, juice
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup double cream
  • fresh parsley for garnish
  • sea salt and ground pepper for seasoning

Instructions

  • Season the pork steaks (once they've come to room temperature).
  • In a deep frying pan, add a little oil and a knob of butter. Once the pan is hot, add the steaks and cook for approx. 3 mins each side (slightly longer if they are thick steaks). Transfer to a plate to rest.
  • In a the same pan, on a lower heat, add some more butter and add the garlic cloves, cook for a few minutes or until just starting to brown.
    Push the garlic to the side of the pan, then add the flour and stir in with the butter to make a quick roux avoiding the garlic.
  • Pour in the chicken stock and lemon juice and stir altogether until it thickens a little.
  • Add in the garlic powder and cream, whisk in, then add back in the pork steaks and leave on a low heat.
    Cook you gnocchi (according to the packet)… should take 2 -3 mins or until they start to float.
    Then add the gnocchi to the pan making sure it all gets nicely coated in the creamy sauce.
    Serve.
